See http://tr.im/bestbuygr2 for an example. The cool thing is - The data does not come from BestBuy directly; it is collected and collated on the fly from APIs and other resources (i.e. this is not yet the original BestBuy data). - It used the full level of detail of the GoodRelations ontology for e-commerce, http://www.ebusiness-unibw.org/wiki/GoodRelations (not just 1 -2 properties). - It exposes both price information and technical features in GoodRelations. - If you request an XHTML version of the page, you get the meta-data in RDFa for further reuse and combination in novel scenarios. There are a few very minor issues with the data; we already provided respective feedback to Openlink SW. But all should be quick fixes. I am confident that this is a major step for a Web of Linked Data, because the same approach can bring unprecedented amounts of highly detailed GoodRelations data for existing Web content. In the second case how the linkining process > is performed? Just by using a simple string comparison? > In an ideal world, Apple as the manufacturer would / will publish the data for the make and model "Macbook Air" in its own domain name space, including all distinct features etc. Example a gr:ProductOrServiceModel. Retailers could then announce offer for macbook-air computers by using gr:ProductOrServicesSomeInstancesPlaceholder and using Apple's authoritative URI when linking to the make and model: foo:myBunchOfMacBooks a gr:ProductOrServicesSomeInstancesPlaceholder; gr:hasMakeAndModel . (Side remark: This would allow inferring product feature details from the model specification, as sketched in http://www.ebusiness-unibw.org/wiki/GoodRelations_Ruleset_for_Product_Model_Properties). Now, what will happen (is already happening) in practice is that may people will define a make and model for the MacBook Air, simply because there either is no "authoritative" definition (e.g. by Apple) or they have no easy way of getting the respective URI (it may not be included in their current product database and they have no resource searching for those URIs). So BestBuy and Amazon and other will all define multiple gr:ProductOrServiceModel instances in their own name space and provide links only to their local model definition. The challenge for a GoodRelations commerce dataspace will then be to consolidate the multiple URIs describing the same make and model - entity consolidation as known from distributed databases. Fortunately, already a few simple heuristics will get you far, since you are operating on structured data, not on plain text. For example, you could compute string distance metrics for all pairs of gr:ProductOrServiceModel instances in the space for their rdfs:label literals. Even more powerful will be searching for matching gr:hasEAN_UCC-13 properties. If the EAN or UCC13 code of two gr:ProductOrServiceModel instances is nonempty and matches, you can be almost certain that they reflect the same model. Hope that clarifies the issue :-) By the way, you face the same problem of entity consolidation anywhere on the Semantic Web - dozens of foaf profiles reflecting the same human etc. Note that this is a strong argument for NATIVE RDFa / RDF meta-data, because all RDF derived from microformats or proprietary structures will lack authoritative URIs. Thus, the output is HTML only. If you want structured data, simply invoke the Yahoo BOSS interface directly. This is very straightforward: START ="0" QUERY ="cars" query = urllib.quote_plus(QUERY) uri = ("http://boss.yahooapis.com/ysearch/web/v1/%s?appid="+APPID+"&format=xml&view=searchmonkey_rdf&start=%s") % (query, START) yahooresult = urllib.urlopen(uri) You can then extract the RDF data collected by Yahoo: dom = minidom.parse(yahooresult) results = [] elements = dom.getElementsByTagName('result') for hit in elements: abstract = hit.getElementsByTagName('abstract') if len(abstract) == 0: abstract = "No abstract available. " else: abstract = abstract[0].firstChild.data clickurl = hit.getElementsByTagName('clickurl')[0].firstChild.data dispurl = hit.getElementsByTagName('dispurl')[0].firstChild.data rdf = hit.getElementsByTagName('searchmonkey_rdf')[0] rdf = rdf.getElementsByTagName('rdf:RDF') if len(rdf) == 0: rdf = "No RDF Found" else: rdfdata = rdf[0].toxml() rdfdata = parseRDF(rdfdata.encode('ascii', 'replace')) # TODO: Find better solution for non-ascii content in RDF rdf = "RDF metadata found (%d statements)" % len(rdfdata) You need a Yahoo APP ID, which is available for free. In particular, there will be significant redundancy in the definition of - Business Entities and - Product Models. The main cause is that providers of data may define entities locally rather than searching for an authoritative URI on the Web. For example, someone exporting a catalog may want to refer to the manufacturer of a gr:ProductOrServiceModel or gr:ProductOrServicesSomeInstancesPlaceholder without searching for the authoritative URI of that manufacturer. This is not a major technical problem, since providers of commerce dataspaces will very likely offer entity consolidation as one important feature. For your own projects, you can start with the following simple SPARQL CONSTRUCT rules to create owl:sameAs statements so that multiple definition of the very same entities will be treated as one. Note that the current rules assume perfect equivalence of the legal names resp. the EAN/UPC code. You could use more sophisticated filters for expanding the scope of the consolidation, e.g. ignoring capitalization and special characters (e.g. "Miller Ltd." vs. "miller ltd"). # Consolidate Business Entities that have the exact same legalName CONSTRUCT {?u2 owl:sameAs ?u1.} WHERE {?u1 a gr:BusinessEntity. ?u2 a gr:BusinessEntity. ?u1 gr:legalName ?name1. ?u2 gr:legalName ?name2. FILTER (?u1!=?u2 && ?name1=?name2)} # Consolidate Product Models that have the exact same gr:hasEAN_UCC-13 CONSTRUCT {?u2 owl:sameAs ?u1.} WHERE {?u1 a gr:ProductOrServiceModel. ?u2 a gr:ProductOrServiceModel. ?u1 gr:hasEAN_UCC-13 ?ean1. ?u2 gr:hasEAN_UCC-13 ?ean2. FILTER (?u1!=?u2 && ?ean1=?ean2 && ?ean1!="")} Important: 1. Make sure you consolidate only nodes of the same type. For example, two gr:Offerings may have the same gr:hasEAN_UCC-13 property, but are of course not the same. 2. For local sets of such statements, you have any degree of freedom and I encourage you to experiment with different ones. Before publishing such sameAs statements, however, run thorough quality checks first. Reckless usage of sameAs can spam the Web of Linked Data, and dataspaces will consequently ignore all your graphs. A) Sindice Inspector - Takes anything with structured data on (RDF, RDFa, Microformats), and provides several handy ways: * in a ?Sigma? based view * a novel card/frame based view * a SVG based interactive graph view (a la google map) * sortable triples, with prettyprint namespace support * full ontology tree view for Online Data Reasoning debugging - Does live Online Data Reasoning: allows a data publisher to see which ontologies are implicitly or explicitly (directly or indirectly, via other ontologies) and * visualizes the full closure of inferred statements using different colors. * provides a tree of the ontologies in use and their dependencies. Ways to use it: * a tool from Sindice.com (the inspect tab on the homepage) or the Inspector Homepage * a Bookmarklet (drag it to your bookmark bar and use while browsing) * an API either raw (Any23 output, no reasoning) or with reasoning * to send links to structured data files around, every visualization has its own permalink. Examples: * Sortable Triples with Reasoning Closure (try) http://sindice.com/developers/inspector/?url=http://dbpedia.org/resource/Lough_Corrib&doReasoning=true#triples * Ontology Import Tree of Axel Polleres?s DERI foaf file (try notice how the GEO ontology and the DCTerms elements are only imported indirectly via other ontologies but yet contribute to the reasoning) http://sindice.com/developers/inspector?doReasoning=true&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.deri.ie%2Ffileadmin%2Fscripts%2Ffoaf.php%3Fid%3D58#ontologies * Graph of the RDF representation of Axel?s Facebook public profile (from microformats) http://sindice.com/developers/inspector/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FAxelPolleres%3F_fb_noscript%3D1#graph * All the data in a eventful.com page http://sindice.com/developers/inspector/?url=http%3A%2F%2Feventful.com%2Fwinnipeg%2Fevents%2Fmetallica-%2FE0-001-025118008-2#fullcontent B) Sindice Cache API Tired of your favorite data being offline now and then? convinced that you can?t really do a linked data application without any network safety net? rejoice :-) . With the Sindice Cache API you can: * access and retrieve any of the currently 64 million RDF sources in Sindice with a simple REST api; * access and retrieve the full set of inferred triples created by Online Data Reasoning (instant access to the precomputed closure, 0 wait time); * visualize the cache with the same handy tools as available in the inspector. Just try from any Sindice result page. Feel free to use Sindice Cache with reasoning as a fallback service when data is not available and as a way to add full recursive ontology importing + reasoning support to your application (with none of the massive pain associated with the full procedure). A document you need is not in the cache? just ping the URL in and it will be available within minutes; ???????????- But what is Online Data Reasoning exactly? Background and implementation When RDF/RDFa data is put out there on the web, the ?explicit? information given in the data is just part of the story. Reasoning is a process by which the vocabulary used in the data (Ontologies) are analyzed to extract new pieces of information (otherwise implicit) ? e.g. giving a ?date of birth? to an ?agent? would makes that a ?person?. Typically, Semantic Web software have manually imported the ontologies they needed. If ontologies are published using W3C best practices, however, it becomes possible to do the entire process automatically: ontological properties can be resolved (i.e. as they are resolvable URIs, they are HTTP fetched) and therefore all can be imported automatically ? ? but ontologies can import other ontologies, and form circles and so on. But actually I think there won't be a single namespace in which all model data will reside. Rather, there will be a mix of - data from huge manufacturers, defined in their namespaces (http://www.sony.com/consumer/models/id/cellphone1234) - data from third-party content providers (e.g. icecat.biz - note: the conversion is already being implemented by a group, so don't waste resources trying to do it) - community platforms like product.db And as said, some redundancy won't hurt and can be consolidated lateron easily. Briefly: "Spongers" create rich GoodRelations (and other RDF) meta-data for existing Web pages on-the-fly. Other than traditional screen-scraping approaches, Spongers reuse public APIs and other techniques, so the data is of unprecedented degree of structure. Now, this can be directly used in arbitrary queries... by simply using the URI of the *existing* HTML Web page in the FROM clause of a SPARQL query. Example: http://www.amazon.com/Semantic-Web-Real-World-Applications-Industry/dp/0387485309 is a Web page offering a book. Amazon does not yet produce GoodRelations meta-data on their pages. If you go to http://uriburner.com/sparql and paste the URI in the "Default Graph URI " field and select "Retrieve remote RDF for all missing source graphs", then a query like "SELECT * WHERE {?s ?p ?o} LIMIT 50" returns a fully-fledged GoodRelations description for that page - as if Amazon was already supporting GoodRelations for each of its > 4 million items! There are spongers for BestBuy, eBay, Zillow, and many other types of resources. Wow! That ontology defines four types of products, namely the classes. ..." I can understand some annoyance by practitioners that early Semantic Web research did not live up to its bold statements.
